George the cat has come to live with me. He had a long, six hour car journey in order to get here. It must have been stressful for him. He shot out of the cat carrier as soon as we got home and found a dark corner to hide in. He stayed there for ages until he felt ready to come out and explore his new environment.
I admire the way he does things in his own good time. He has eaten, drunk and used his litter tray. In the night he came to see me in my bedroom once in the night to check I was there. He purred and curled up on the bed for a while before returning to his safe space.
He has found a new, more comfortable den under the bed now.
I call him every now and then and he comes out to say 'hello' before returning to his favoured spot.
We can learn from George. When we encounter new things we can learn to take our time. We don't need to rush to achieve things. We can act when we feel ready.
